I've got both the Lagrene and the Rosenberg DVDs and I can guarantee they're both 100% region free. I bought mine though websites in Europe, you can get some cheap prices if you search around.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Rosenberg Trio, but their DVD leaves me feeling a little frustrated. Firstly, the compression they've used on the video to master it to a DVD5 instead of a DVD9 makes for some really annoying pixilation problems. It gets all 'blocky' on anything that is slightly out of focus".
Does anyone else have that pixel problem? :?
Secondly, the fade to black after every song really detracts from the 'concert in your living-room' feeling.
The interviews and the rest of the bonus features are really entertaining.
All due respect to Django and the Rosenberg's but the 'Tribute' section is a little 'over-the-top' on the dramatic side...good for a laugh, at least.
On the other hand, the Lagrene DVD is just a flawless four hours of virtuosic musicians - can't watch it enough!
Andy - Glad I motivated you to try the Target. If I'd known about this, I'd have ordered it a long time ago.
Mark, I got to agree with you on the image quality - it's less than superb - like it was remastered from bad video tape. Birelli's show, on the other hand, is in a class by itself. With so many guest appearances of the creme de la creme of GJ, I couldn't fairly compare it to the Rosenberg concert. After Stochelo cancelled his appearance here at the last minute (Montreal Jazz Fest) the DVD is more than a consolation to me.
