Hi all,
I'm working on finishing my first gypsy-jazz album, and it's in the mixing stage at the moment. I'm curious to get people's takes — what are some of your favorite modern albums in this style, specifically with respect to the mix and guitar sound?
Thanks!
Adrian

Fappy's, Swing Guitars (Lejazzetal, 1994) and Hungaria (Lejazzetal, 1996).
Modern?
It was about time...
1910 (which I bet you listened to death so I don't think a link is needed)
And the stuff that Scaramouche did. Such bummer since they disbanded. Such good playing and the mix is excellent.
Edit, one more...
Steeve Laffont, very balanced mix between bass and guitar and both sound very acoustic. Especially bass has all the qualities of an upright which can be lost during the recording. You can visualize the big wooden armoire when listening to it.
Oh and Duved's transatlantic stuff.
I always loved the sound of the Rosenberg Trio Caravan CD:
Like a lot of earlier Gypsy recordings, it's pretty heavy on the Reverb, but the guitar sound is awesome. The 40s Selmer and ridiculous chops probably have a lot do with it, but it makes a nice reference for mixing.
For me it's the sound of Miri Familia
Don't think they've done anything fancy here, it might even just be a single mic, with the band members arranged at appropriate distances for the mix. But I love what they didn't do - it's just simple and dry! I despise when there's too much reverb in this style of music.
Another favorite - Rire avec Charlie

I always thought it's funny how everyone is chasing dryness in these guitars but then many recordings are showered with reverb.
Regarding recent (do you mean this with modern?) recordings I love the sound this:
It's also very roomy but not that 90s artificial reverb style, just a good amount of room ambiance. Love how organic it sounds, also very hifi but without loosing the rawness.
Thanks all! There's a bunch of stuff here I haven't heard before.
@DoubleWhisky Yes, by "modern" I suppose I mean "recent," though I didn't have a particular timeframe in mind. Just looking for ideas and inspiration. Cheers!

Digo o divès, Mandino Reinhardt and Bireli's Gypsy Trio album.
Both have superb clarity of sound.
Franco American Swing is a very well recorded album.
