I met Mario Maccaferri in 1977 at his plastics factory in the Bronx. I showed him one of those early Japanese-made prototypes with an internal soundbox (made by Kiso?), and he said it had a "delicate" tone (?). I think he said maybe they could make those soundboxes out of plastic. He was very graceful.

He and John Monteleone became friends at one point and collaborated on some guitars.
