refinished Gitane 255

I wasn't looking to buy another guitar, but a nice looking Gitane 255 was on Gumtree for a low price and the interesting grain of the spruce top caught my attention. I took all the finish off the entire guitar, right back to bare wood. I've lightly shellac-ed the guitar, narrowed and chamfered the fingerboard a little and added a Gallato tailpiece and Altamira tuners. The result is definitely different - some of that brash brightness has gone, and the guitar feels more resonant. I'm sure it's noticeably lighter in weight now! I'll wait for the new strings to settle down a bit before making a recording. I took it to the monthly gypsy jazz jam session at Glenuig Inn yesterday, and I think it sounded pretty good.

Amazing. You see similar grain occasionally with the regular grain going one way but then you have these swirls going across. This one is wild though, don't know if I've seen one quite like that.

Krzys, Just be careful not to go through the first layer!

Littlemark, I had a painting framed recently and when I got up close to the ornate gold frame, I noticed the grain and aged look was printed onto the wood. Quite convincing, but very disappointing!
