Well, I got a nice surprise today when forScore recognized all my old backing tracks which had been stored in an old version of iTunes on my old iMac computer.

It automatically accepted them on my iPad with zero stress on my part, hallelujah!

So I have now started the more laborious process of scanning all my old lead sheets to PDF format in order to transfer over to forScore.

Hopefully this will be done in the next day or so and I will find out if I can marry the audio to the visual…

    Fingers crossed!

    Progress report Jan. 24, 2024

Well, the last week or so has been spent transferring all my old leadsheet pages into PDF format.

It ended up that there were 120 pages!

But now, alas, transferring these PDF files into the forScore app turns out to be much trickier than I was hoping.

For whatever reason, I just can’t get forScore to accept a large batch of “scores” all at once.

It wants me to feed them in one at a time. Grrr.

Cause that’s gonna be a few hours of work.

    ****

But what I’m really afraid of is officiating the marriage between all those scores and their matching MP3 backing track.

I’m afraid it’s going to be a “Red Wedding”.

    *****

Well, that’s about it from down around our way, pardners.

    Toodles,

    Will

PS Almost forgot to mention that the forScore app can be kind of clunky at times… several times I’ve been spittin’ bullets when I’ve got stuck in some kind of artwork submenu and it’s taken me ten minutes or more to get out of the damn thing and navigate back to the home page.

    #$&* annoying!

Another day of frustration trying to get my PDF files out of DropBox and into forScore.

    Very #$&^§& annoying.

I’m about ready to give up on forScore and purchase software from one of their competitors.

    Arrrrgggh.

Hooray! Success at last. I got the PDF’s on there today.

Turned out the way to do it was to trash everything I had done before and start all over again.

Then I deliberately avoided dropbox and just opened all the PDF forms I had already emailed myself about a week ago.

There were a couple of things I didn’t know-

    a) for Score doesn’t keep its own folders of PDF files, it just draws upon the ones you have already saved in your iPad’s Documents folder. And you can save those files by just uploading PDF email attachments that you can send yourself from another computer.

    b) forScore doesn't recognize and can’t access folders full of PDF’s. It only wants naked PDF’s pressed right into to its goddess-like whatchmacallit. That’s why I could never make it work and why I had to delete everything and start all over.

I still don’t have the nerve to match up the PDF’s with the MP3’s yet.

And tomorrow I will be busy with other things.

But soon I hope to report back with good news.

PS Hey look at the cool iPad mount that our own Vic “V-dub” Wong has created… I ‘ve asked him if he can make me one on his 3D printer.

More frustration. All the MP3’s that I thought had been transferred so easily are somehow inaccessible to for Score.

I’m going to have to e-mail myself all my MP3 files and save them to my iPad.

Why oh why oh why does this need to be so endlessly frustrating?

That's a bummer that it is not working out. I thought for sure it was going to be what you were looking for.

Yes, thanks, Geese, in theory it is exactly what I’m looking for.

But it turns out to not be as user-friendly as I had hoped…

Ok, I have finally got all 120 of my PDF and my MP3’s stored in my iPad’s “Documents” file.

Turned out I wasted a lot of time until I discovered the best way was to forget about Dropbox and just email the files to myself as attachments.

Now I’ve gotta marry ‘em all up with their siblings. Yahoo!

    FINALLY!

    HOORAY!

Turned out there was a menu item over on the RH side called “Services” that I finally figured out was the way to import my audio files so they could be matched up to my PDF’s.

    HOORAY!

Now I can play with it!
