H/T to @Buco for clueing me in to this upcoming Knopfler guitar auction. Not quite as many Selmer related guitars perhaps as Les Paul's auction, but I did see one Draleon, which has been talked about here on the forum in the wayback olden days (https://djangobooks.com/forum/discussion/2576/draleon-guitars). Says it was mostly used backstage for meet and greets, etc.

If I could I'd bid on the purple Pensa. Don't think there was a band I loved more than Dire Straights at that time.
This one
And I think one of these has been mentioned on the forum

If I didn't just buy 2 new guitars, I think I'd try for a low bid on one of these. But, if I did that and won, I think I'd get some stern looks. 🤷♂️
Their servers are crashing apparently, it's been on pause for nearly an hour now. You'd think a place like them would have a knowhow to anticipate the amount of people joining and then prepare for double that capacity.
They didn't truly appreciate the awesomeness of Mark Knopfler. Probably some 25yo intern that had never heard of the Dire Straits and just thought he was some old folk musician. 😂
You could very well be a 100% correct.
total of $11M.
Not sure what the final price includes because the listed prices are much higher than the final bid, even when accounted for 25% Christie's fee. He's donating 25% to charity and he donated the Les Paul goldtop money to charity as well.
Christie's CEO said somewhere midway during the auction that the interest for the auction was far more than what they anticipated. People from 61 countries were bidding. As the whole auction, and the average price of guitars, it is considered one of the, if not the most successful auction of its kind ever.
