I did not hear that Duved's group has been designated the new Quintette, but they are certainly worthy of the moniker. So, do they need to become the new New Quintette, since Babik & Romane recorded this album back in the late 90s? 😂
I found only a concert advert for Salle Cortot Dec 14 and sadly can't find any video from the gig either. It looks like a ritzy venue, perhaps filming is not allowed in there.
There are guitarists who get an acoustic sound similar to Django but no one who improvises like him. His elegance and melodic invention have never been equalled by anyone.
I may be in the minority with what I'm about to say & I'd love to be corrected but I've always thought Django is best contextualized in the world of pre-WWII Jazz. One of the lasts of that period rather than as one of the firsts for the following decades -- which, I think, is how he's thought of most often. I hear him more in line with Armstrong and performers like George Fornby than with Johnny Smith & Wes Montgomery. Sure, his influence on those who came after is undeniable but he was essentially more vaudevillian than "modern" in spite of his sojourn into bop late in life. Pretty much everything about Django, to my ears, says so. So if one wants to look for others who sound similar to him, I think the earlier period of Jazz would be the place to look. And its no wonder so few these days will ever sound even reminiscent like of him.

More on that New Quintette announcement, via The Syncopated Times:
From TFA: "In June of 2024, the Hot Club de France made the decision to name Duved Dunayevsky’s band the new “Quintette du Hot Club de France.” Quite an honor, in that only Django’s and Duved’s bands have borne the name of the Hot Club. In their announcement, the Hot Club noted that Duved’s group plays entirely in the spirit of Django Reinhardt et Stéphane Grappelli."
In the age of the Orange Man, thank God we got the blues ...
To get back on the original question (less busy guitarists sounding most similar to Django) - I think a lot of people are sleeping on Nando Reinhardt. He seems to be not well known, and I'm unsure how he fits into the Reinhardt family tree, but I've never heard anyone else capture Django's tastefulness and tenderness so well

Was there any mention about this in the Bulletin du HCF ?

Sorry --- as much as I like Duved as a musician, I find this way too pompous and undeserving.

I think Django took a lot of phrasing inspiration from classical music. If you tap out some of his phrases, they come out as something orchestral.

Here a couple of examples
Who are the luthiers of the guitars he's playing?
