I live on Maui near the ocean in a humid climate. As a result I have found that my Savarez Argentine strings tend to rust in my case such that when it comes time to restring my guitars they are unusable. So I no longer purchase in bulk. Problem is keeping a spare set in the case may leave me out of luck should I break a string and find that I have no replacement. I am wondering if anyone also has this problem and have come up with a solution. Keep in mind, humid and salty here, rust is common.
Side note: I noticed that my last set of strings came with inserts in each string packet for the 6th through 4th strings, labeled EXCOR and ZERUST. Searching on those names yielded that they are meant for rust and corrosion prevention in packaging. I think this is a good idea but why don't they insert them in the 2nd and 1st strings, which tend to rust the fastest.

Sorry if dumb question, but are aren't the Argentine strings shipped in a sealed plastic packet? Are you saying you still get rusty strings even if you don't remove them from that packet, or otherwise seal them in an airtight container?
You might want to ask what @EmmettRay in Honolulu does, he has enough guitars that if the strings were rusting every other week he'd be bankrupt by now..
Just keep a desiccant like silica gel with them in a sealed container or ziplock. One moisture absorber and one ziplock bag will do the trick.
They aren't in plastic packets anymore. Paper and cardboard.
:( I mean better for the environment I suppose.
stinks that me dumping my old argentine packages into the ocean has finally caught up with me. Sorry all.
I have tried placing them in a ziploc with a desiccant and that doesn't work either. It can be brutal here. On a side note, the strings on my guitar don't seem to rust, just the ones in my case. The case in which my guitar lives. I am also seeing rust on the loop ends of the wound strings. Also strings that were shipped in sealed plastic also succumbed.
Already tried that, to no avail.
Maybe vac seal to remove all air and store in your freezer? Because aside from running a bunch of dehumidifiers, hard to think of any other solution at this point lol
