I’m putting my AJL Silent and Portable Gypsy jazz guitar up for sale, and I’m offering it to Djangobooks members first before I list it on Reverb. You can see all the specs and appearance of the guitar on the AJL site which I will attach below. My version includes special gold frets, AJL tuners, and a travel case, all for an extra price bump above and beyond the basic guitar. The total for that guitar now on the site would be $2219, not including shipping, which I also paid for. I’d be willing to talk about letting the guitar go for $1700 and free shipping.
The guitar is in mint condition, and I’ve only played it at home since I purchased it in April 2018. Additionally, during construction, I asked the luthier to add some extra wood material at the forearm position and to give it a round comfort slope in order to make it more comfortable while playing. He did so at no extra charge. That customization makes this a one-of-a-kind version of this instrument.
Some might say this guitar is a bit of an extravagance, but nothing plays or looks like it. A big selling point is that the neck and fret work is exactly the same as that on regular AJL guitars. I personally don’t care for the sound of the BigTone pickup included in the bridge, so I occasionally would mount Krivo or Peche to plug into a headphone or even regular amp if I wanted sound. In all respects, the guitar plays and feels like a regular Selmer or Maccaferri style guitar, it’s just really quiet.
Take a look at the website for full description and pictures. A video is included there, and you can find videos online of people playing them and using them in various situations.
Drop me a line if you’re interested.
