Galli Silk & Steel 10a vs. Argentine 10s

I know, I know this has been done to death but usually it’s about the wound strings. Anybody notice a difference between the 10 & 14s? It’s probably placebo effect & somebody will tell me they’re made at the same factory. :)

The Galli 10 & 14 seem a little less twangier, it could be that the Silk & Steel set has more tension maybe making it seem like they’re stouter, I dunno. I like ‘em though, wish you could get singles?

In other news picked up a used Altamira M01D probably first purchased here. I sold my Latcho Drom some years ago, never gonna be Gypsy Jazz guy but who doesn’t like cool guitars & all the great players, this guitar sounds pretty good though, a little more open sounding which may be an anti GJ trait but it can be focused also if you concentrate where you're picking at. I like it. GJ novice checking in.To be continued.

    All Hail Mondoslug!

I went back and forth a little but I just like the feel and sound of Argentines for Gypsy Jazz. Also individual string gauges are available. I usually swap out a 10 for an 11 on the E string.

Not sure what you mean 10 and 14's. The non wound is pretty ubiquitous with any other non wound set of strings from any other maker if the gauge matches. I have used say a 10 from an old Ernie Ball acoustic set and was fine with it.

BTW Modoslug is one of the most innovative guitarists on the planet and a really nice guy so if you have a chance check him out (look up Mondoslug).

    Hey thanks much, backatchu Scoredog!

No, I mean I think the plain old E & B strings on the Gallis(10-45 set) feel/sound a little different than the E & B Argentines, as generic as unwound strings are. It's probably just in my mind though. :) Hope you're great!

Might be but I used a John Pearse set and they were stiffer than the Argentines so maybe...

You likely heard that correctly. I remember 10 string having a different feel on various sets. And sometimes with these Optima strings that I've been using, people ask me if those are 11s (they're 10s) which never happened before.

You could write to Galli customer service and ask, or call Michael here. I was able to buy wound G singles from LaBella GJ set when I wrote to their CS saying the winding breaks very fast.

On another note, just the other day I wanted to go over something you played some time ago and I learned but alas, you removed the video, womp womp...

Sounds like a plan! I put Agentines back on and I dunno...who knows. I just need to play more. :)

Re:Video - Hate when that happens! Sorry about that Buco, cool that you liked it though whatever it was!
