Years ago I talked about right hand with a classical guitar playing/teaching friend of mine. She told me, that "tirando" (pulling) was obsolete, everybody would play "apoyando" (rest stroke).
@voutoreenie I don't really know what are the technical details but his picking reminds me more of a bass player than a classical guitarist. He did mention, I think in the interview with Rick B, that he often uses three fingers and occasionally even the pinky to pick a certain lines.
I figured it's a given that he's using the reststroke. His sound is so full, there has to be a lot of velocity behind each note.
@pdg perhaps you've paid more attention than I did because when I started watching this video with him Rick B, I saw that he plays as much with free strokes as the rest stroke.

I think Matteo uses finger rest strokes, which might account for his tone.
Yeah, his right hand looks kinda like a cross between classical and what you'd see from a really good Jaco-style bass player who uses rest stroke

Ok, I'd rather hear that than BB King bend all night. Wow.

Ahh, appreciate the info Buco - I'll have to check out that Rick B. interview with him!
I think he was saying in the interview that his fingerpicking isn't quite classical technique.
Right at 2:20 he mentions a bass player's approach to his picking
