Did anyone notice the bumb in the volume of Paul's voice when he picked up the blue guitar to talk about it (7m26s)? As soon as he had the soundbox in his hands, the volume of his voice jumped audibly louder.
I noticed it too, that blue guitar has some mojo! Paul, super-cool interview. 2 things I liked in particular:
1) I don't think you ever used the term "gypsy jazz", which I thought showed an intriguing level of sophistication. I use it all the time when people ask me questions about our music but I always find myself wishing I would rely on more refined terminology. I don't want to open up the debate again about the appropriateness of the term, we've beaten that to death here. But I noticed that & respected it.
2) David Rawlings is my hero, how cool that you got to spend some time with him! He's probably my favorite non-jazz guitar player. Even though his style is different, I think his approach to music has some of the same qualities & characteristics that you find in our music.
Thanks for the kind words guys. It means a lot. I kinda hate specific self promotion but I drag myself into it.
Mike, I don't know what I said in the interview. I say Gypsy Jazz sometimes but probably do a little self loathing each time I say it for want of a better word. Sometimes I think I say "french jazz" which I like because the stuff I really like is what's happening in Paris right now...really sophisticated music that goes back to Django but that can take in whatever other influences are accessible.
David Rawling was cool as shit. It was nuts. Such a nice guy. He hung out for about 45 minutes in my shitty little shop. He played the guitar I took to Paris and liked it a lot, that guitar just sold for a new life in Michigan.
I'm redoing the design on my neck joint right now. It's cool. It's kind of a reverse Selmer. Totally different than the V joint I did but I think it's going to be super cool. I was in a yoga class just now and spent the whole class thinking about my neck joint.

Haha I did the same thing with archtops, couldn't justify buying a good one so I spent WAY more money building them myself.
yeah I'm probably in for a primo Selmer and a player's grade 30s Martin thus far.
But I sold 2 guitars this year. 2 more than I sold last year.
