Are plain strings silvered?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but with busting loops and dead strings, I'm wondering if the high E and B strings are also sliver coated like the wound ones. If I were to substitute with regular steel, would I hear a difference? Thanks for this great forum. I have learned so much since discovering it a couple of days ago.

There's no difference. The E and B are plain steel. I have some replacements here: Single Strings

Try playing harder. I find that it feels much better when I break strings when I'm really wailing.

    Cheers
