Moreno (advice)

The only recording I have of Moreno is one track from the Rough Guide compilation. I really want to hear more of him - what should I look for first (and where)?

I recommend "Moreno Bolero". Not sure if Michael has that or not?

I personally recommend Yochka... unfortunately the label (Al Sur) that makes most of moreno's CD is apparently out of business....

Get what's left wherever you can before they're gone for good.

I'll be getting Moreno's CD with the Hot Club de Norvege. Some others are in the works....it's really hard to track some of this stuff down!!

Actually that;s a typo - the name of Moreno's most recent album is "Fils du Vent" just in case anyone is looking for it

don´t forget the spanish-flavoured CD "Musiciens Manouches en Béarn: Latcho Dives" (AIACD 9906) from 1999, on which Moreno plays on 16 of 18 Tracks. He playes with the Manouches in Béarn (Spain). This is a clan of Manouches who went from Alsace to Spain to escape from the Nazi´s concentration camps. They have songs in Romani and spanish, but they don´t play flamenco style, because this is the business of the spanish gypsys. It ´s a nice CD, too.

My favorite is still "Yochka".

I recently got Le fils du vent to begin my Moreno journey. I really like it. I may be naive, but his music reminds me both of certain Portuguese sea songs and of flamenco, as well as gypsy jazz. More in feel than actual song structure. Anyway, it's great stuff.
