I have been playing guitar for 2 1/2 years (started May 2023) and started trying out gypsy swing in Feb. of this year. I don't have a lot of time to practice but I have been trying my best. This is a recent transcription I did of Gonzalo Bergara's version of the "I cant give you anything but love" theme. Any tips on improvement? Right now I am sticking with my regular acoustic but thinking about whether buying a gypsy guitar is worth it.

Really good, right hand looks very nice, especially considering you've only been playing GJ since Feb! Maybe the only advice I could give is if you're ever trying to start building up speed with the right hand (particularly on double down strokes), you may consider watching some vids from other players to see how they'll sometimes add a bit of support for particular licks by using fingers or knuckles on the soundboard as reference points - Bireli's right hand in particular is a great one to study, imo.
Otherwise? I'd say just keep doing exactly what you're doing, I could hear the tempo in my head while you were playing and that's always a great thing on single lines sans metronome!
Nice timing, space and volume! GJ guitarist Romane 20 years back had a similar linear attack style from elbow thru forearm to wrist to hand. I think he has evolved this somewhat since then though. Keep it up. Nice style!
Nice! What strings and pick are you using? I'm also playing on a traditional acoustic.
Thanks! I love Bireli. I will watch his DC music school vids to see the right hand close up.
Thanks! I had never listened to Romane but I just checked him out and he's great!
The pick is the purple Dunlop's (I don't know the name) but I think Bireli and many others also use them so it should not be hard to find. The strings are D'addario 12s.
Well, Jimmy Rosenberg didn't use a gypsy guitar when he was starting out: The Gipsy Kids with Jimmy Rosenberg 11 years old!
And he also didn't use one when he was making his comeback: Jimmy Rosenberg & Mozef de Gelder (December 2018) (What guitar is even that? Is it a classical with steel strings??)
Here's Ninine Garcia also not playing a gypsy guitar: Romane and Ninine, amazing guitar - "David"
