@ davidjazzfan Some of the pros teach online lessons, I took a couple from Antoine Boyer a couple years back. Not inexpensive, I want to say $100 per but totally worth it for the technique insight he provided. That said, do you have anyone locally or regionally who could teach you or even just jam? Even tho online can be great, in-person is an entirely different atmosphere and imo there's a lot more to be gained as a beginner by direct observation that you can't get over a webcam.

Record yourself, listen and work on sections (slowly) that don’t match your expectations.

Reach out to Denis Chang for a teacher

David, could you keep it to one thread about your playing at a time? You can post all your questions there. You have a bunch of threads all going at once.

I mean, that's for a pro and it might even be more now. Which is why I also suggested trying to find someone local and even if there aren't any teachers nearby, just jamming consistently with other guitarists who play GJ can be akin to "taking lessons" because of how much we can learn just through listening and observation.

That's how I got my start 10 years ago - the players around me weren't really interested in teaching within a formal context but they were always very open to jamming and answering questions. And man, I completely sucked when I started because even tho I had a decent background in jazz guitar, switching to rest stroke was like reinventing the wheel for me lol. You've already got a decent leg up with your technique so just try and stay patient with the rest - it'll all come together over time if you're persistent enough, which goes for anyone getting into it.

Maybe mods could combine into a davidjazzfan master thread?

$100 for the guitar player Rick Beato said might be the greatest in the world is pretty decent. I think you'd be lucky to get a lesson slot with him at this point.
