mama bear "box" anyone?

Anyone tried out the Mamabear system?
Does it work for the selmac sound?

I´ve seen the video with JJ demonstrating, but there it´s with a
silly western type guitar, and it sounds ok, but still not alive.
It probably isn´t fair to judge with computer speakers only, so
anybody who knows?

I see it has a Gypsy Jazz setting (Target Instrument).

It does a nice job of making that dreadful mess of a pickup sound decent. Not for Schatten users though. Here's something from their manual...

It is designed to work with all acoustic guitars
    outfitted with magnetic pickups, under-saddle
acoustic transducers and electric guitars with
piezo bridge saddles. It is not designed to work
    with microphones, soundboard transducers or
    accelerometers.

What technology does the big tone use?

I've checked out the unit guys. Sounds great. Rick Turner and Barry Pearlman are friends and I visit with them from time to time. They had me play one of Ricks OM style flattops going through the Mama Bear unit. The Selmer setting made that OM sound like my Dupont. Which it should, as my Dupont is a MD-20, the same model they used to create the sound patch from. BTW that Dupont MD-20 now belongs to Paul Mehling of the HCSF. It is an amazing guitar. I played it several times when it belonged to the original owner. But what can I say, my MD-20 is a pretty excellent guitar as well.

I haven't brought one of my guitars over with a big tone to see how well it works with the mama bear yet, but I plan on doing it. The big tone should work as it is essentially an under saddle piezo.

Its a cool idea, one guitar becomes like 20 different guitars through that unit.

    Cheers,

    Marc

Ok, thanks for your info! Please post a comment when you´ve tried it with the bigtone if possible.

A for sounds, I really don´t need 20 other sounds or emulations like a
"acoustic POD" just a LOUD rendering of the selmac sound with decent
    dynamics.
I´m happy with the way my guitar sounds both acoustically or with a small condenser as used for a "calm and silent audience". But as we all know
the problem comes when one wants a natural LOUD acoustic sound that
doesn´t feed back, You know , when you have to be louder than those
mean drunk bastards that don´t wanna listen to you.

So my question is really if the mamabear is the solution to LOUD playing
when one can not rely on a FOH system and condenser mics?

It has been 2-3 years since the last posts on the D-Tar Mama Bear. Anyone have experience using one?

My inquiry is pretty much the same as Max's. I'm happy with a mic most of the time, I am interested in this to tame a piezo for the occasional LOUD gig.
