Romane "French Guitar"

I picked up this CD at DFNW and it's brilliant! Thanks for the recommendation Ross!

This is a wonderfully fresh sounding Romane with some great be-bop tunes on it.

Has Romane done any other CDs with this group, especially with the amazing violinist/pianist Christophe Cravero?

Thats the only cd with Cravero.However those amazing brothers Yayo and Fanto Reinhardt (their rhythm guitar is SO cool!) appear on Romane's "acoustic quartet" cd which i highly recommend if only for the great version of "Danube".
I think you will find the cd in this sites (and UK Hotclub) store.

Those CD's are among my recent favorites. The playing on the Acoustic Quartet CD is so crisp, and demonstrates Romane's phrasing so well. The French Guitar CD could have used a bit more la pompe, in my mind, but features beautiful playing; I really like the tone of his guitar on that one.

Just wanted to add my belated 2 cents on how much I like both of these CDs. I have had Acoustic Quartet for awhile, and really like it, but got French Guitar fairly recently ($5 at Tower Records' going out of business clearance!).

French Guitar is what the title suggests and it's not really a "jazz manouche" CD although that flavor is certainly in the stew. One thing that really blows me away about French Guitar is the piano playing of Christophe Cravero. Really, really lovely playing. His violin is great too but the piano is what really kills me.

Can anyone recommend any other GJ-ish CDs with piano playing in this style?

If I'm not mistaken I think the Ferre Bros most recent stuff includes piano...try their wonderful "Rainbow of Life" CD..cheers, Phil

Thanks Phil. I bought "Rainbow of Life" based on glowing recommendations here, but I'm not really that crazy about it. Maybe the brothers Ferre will grow on me -- I like the early Steeplechase stuff a bit better, but the more recent stuff while really well done doesn't move me as much. I think maybe I like a bit more swing.

I think, although I might be wrong, that one of Yorgui Loefflers cds has piano on it. Also, I think Andreas Obergs bebop cd has some. You should take my advice questionably though...

There is indeed a Yorgui L. CD with piano, and a couple of fine Ritary G. CD's. I do have to agree that the player on French Guitar, with the dual piano/violin virtuosity, is amazing.
