Gypsy Jazz at Hopewell Valley Bistro

On Saturday, November 11 the Hopewell Valley Bistro in Hopewell, New Jersey, will pay tribute to jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli and gypsy guitar virtuoso, Django Reinhardt. In the early 1930's, Grappelli and Reinhardt founded the "Quintette du Hot Club de France", an all acoustic string jazz group who performed their own special style of swing music. For this performance, the Hopewell Bistro will welcome to its stage, Aaron Weinstein (violin), Frank Vignola (guitar) and Gary Mazzaroppi (bass).

Twenty year-old jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein is currently attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2002, his group, "The Stephane Grappelli Tribute Trio", was voted by Downbeat Magazine as the nation's best high school instrumental jazz group. Aaron has won numerous competitions and is the youngest winner of the Illinois State Fiddle Championship. He has been a featured soloist at the Iridium and Birdland in New York City and the Atlantic Mutual Jazz Festival in Chatham, NJ. Most recently, he has toured with Hot Club USA. He has also performed with various jazz masters including Bucky Pizzarelli, Jay Leonhardt, Les Paul, Joe Ascione, Johnny Frigo, John Pizzarelli, Brian Torff and Claude "Fiddler" Williams. His current CD is entitled A Handful of Stars.

In the world of jazz, Frank Vignola is a consistent virtuoso and already a guitar legend. He has performed with the likes of Mark O'Connor, Wynton Marsalis and Jane Monheit. He was Les Paul's right hand man for 5 years. He is the co-founder of "Hot Club USA". He has recorded over 15 CDs as a leader and over 100 as a sideman with performers such as guitar greats Bucky Pizzarelli, Gene Bertoncini and Jimmy Rosenberg. He has written 18 books for Mel Bay publishing. Frank currently tours with "The Frank and Joe Show" and the "Acoustic Gypsy Jam Band".

Gary Mazzaroppi has been a side man for the "Who's Who" of jazz. His playing style is notable for melodious harmonies and imaginative, intricate solos. A graduate of Berklee School of Music, he performed with the Lionel Hampton Big Band as well as many of the jazz greats which include Red Norvo, Herb Ellis, Stan Getz, Joe Morello, Buddy Rich, Jim Hall, Barney Kessel, Clark Terry, Charlie Byrd, Red Rodney, Les Paul and Teddy Wilson. Gary is currently collaborating with Frank Vignola and Jamie Masefield in the group "MaMaVig".
