Those gents were truly amazing. That may well have been the most enjoyable set of music I've seen since Samson Schmitt's solo set last year (DFNW '05) where they hauled him in off the plane directly to WICA and he sat down exhausted and dehydrated - pounded some water and put on this amazing set of music. Whit & Matt & Matt did some truly exceptional stuff - off the cuff - fun - and just masterful. Whit's vintage amp sounded great too - I think I mentioned that in another thread a while back.

Embarassingly enough - I didn't know who Whit Smith was, and I was dead tired and not planning on staying for the last show but my brother called and said: "Hey, while you're up there - Matt (Matt Weiner the guy whose reflection you can see in the mirror of your picture - the bass player who also plays with my brother's band http://holotradband.com/ ) has a pickup gig on Whidbey Island with these two old friends of his that he met in New York and he says it's going to be great - he loves playing with these guys and it's going to be rockin - so try to find out where they're playing and go see them." I never did find out any more than that - and so I thought maybe it was a pub gig and then walking out of WICA to go back to the room to sleep I ran into Matt - a very very lucky coincidence. What a show.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.
