He`s one my favorites ever.
Check out that little circus melody he quotes, rapidly becoming a big clichè in gypsy jazz

it was recorded in Houston in 2002 I believe. The quotation you're talking about is "Entrance of the Gladiators" by Julius Fucik. Note also that Bireli quotes quite a bit from Rhapsody in Blue, which seems to be one of his favourite pieces from which to borrow.

Julius Fucik was such a great composer! Check out his "Winter Storm" or "Hertzegovatz"! Really cool bopping brass music! My six year old son is learning to play the tuba and is a great Fucik-Fan since four years.

speaking of quoting Entrance of the Gladiators on Sweet Georgia Brown, you can hear it quoted at around the 3:24 mark by Richie Powell on this track (almost 50 years before Bireli), a tune based on the changes of Sweet Georgia Brown. What a great band this was!
