Berlin (the real one in Germany, mind you!) is a pretty big place, but time after time I've found out that it seems to lack people with...hmmm...special interests (so to say).
For example, I've been extensively playing irish music for about ten years (so much that I made DADGAD my exclusive standard tuning), and I believe I know most irish trad players in Germany. And you know what? There are suprisingly few of them in Berlin. The session here (or what's left of it) is a very, very sad thing most of the time...
Berlin has become such a wannabe-hipster town, it's annoying. And I'm afraid that Jazz Manouche (just like irish trad stuff) just isn't very hip these days.
Anyway, rant over.
What I'd like to know: are there any gypsy-style players in Berlin? Maybe even someone who could give lessons? I wouldn't be suprprised if there should turn out to be only two or three...
Anyone?

Thought that much...
as far as I know Martin Weiss and Romani Weiss are living in Berlin, anyhow. Phone their record label Raumer Records:
http://www.raumer-records.de/
And try to mingle with the smart guys of the "Spatenstich Trio":
http://www.spatenstich-trio.de
Primarily they perform as "Travellers"-Impersonators (see their video trailer - needs a little bit time to load),:
http://www.spatenstich-trio.de/inc/spat ... m_high.wmv
but they love and play all the Gipsy Jazz Stuff as well (good friends of Kussi Weiss), look here:

or here:

Hope that helps a little bit.

Looks like a start. Yet I have to say that their medley at first scared me a bit...
But then, after going through the Samois images and the 'Sanssouci-Clip', I quickly recovered.
Thanks for the tip!
BTW: where exactly is 'Old Europe' located?
Is it because Markus looks a little bit like young Hermann Göring? I know - but he is really a nice guy.
This may be interesting for you, too:

(or is this just you?)
Old Europe is located in germany…

Yeah, and because the box player looks like Dieter Meyer of Yello fame (Oh, yeah!). No really, it was more the photo of Cafè Kranzler. I can see all the grannies munching away on their Sachertorte, while the lads provide the pleasant background noise...
No, it's not me...
The problem is, he's neither looking for beginners nor pros.
While I'm by no means a beginner on guitar, I'm definitely a bloody beginner in all things Manouche (or Jazz, for that matter). That's why I was asking for someone who could give me some lessons (which would be a new adventure all in itself, as I have never taken any guitar lessons until now).
Do say! I already thought that much...
Thanks for your advice,
Mario
So, I live in Berlin to in the very hip district "Zehlendorf", where are you from?
But Zehlendorf isn't half as hip as Gypsy Jazz
GreetZ Rookie
I'm located in the rough'n'tough - and increasingly hip - district of Neukölln, not too far from Hermannplatz.
But it's funny that you're from Zehlendorf - I lived at the Teltower Damm, and I used to frequent (way back when) the HDJ at Argentische Allee/Krumme Lanke (which is where a lot of the boys from SEEED come from).
Just PM me if you want to get in touch!
