    Hi Patrus,

    sorry for being late…

As far as I know there are only 2 LP´s by the Mike Reinhardt Ensemble.

The first one is the one you can see on Djangostation which has a marionette on the cover. By the way this motif seems to be a subtle inside joke because the puppet´s kind of brand is the famous "Kämmer & Reinhardt"

    http://www.traudels-puppenstube.de/html ... hardt.html

This recordings are floating around with several different covers under the title "Swing Thirty Nine". You can buy it extremely cheap on the german amazon site:

    http://www.amazon.de/Swing-Thirty-Nine- ... 155&sr=8-1

There was another LP edition on the label "Tobacco road", too. These are all the same recordings with Wedeli Köhler on violin (and worth to have them).

The second Lp is indeed "Back in town" with Dick Heckstall-Smith on Saxophone.

After a long pause Mike Reinhardt made two CDs together with his brother Moro:

    "Caravan" in 2003

    and

"Mike & Moro Reinhardt and the German Corner Big Band: Let´s Swing"

This Mike Reinhardt did not take part on Lulu Reinhardts recording with the Dodi Schumacher Ensemble. This was another Mike Reinhardt (look at the picture below). So we have to deal at least with 3 Mike Reinhardts…

I don´t know if I have more informations about Mike Reinhardt "Major" than you can read on his own website and on the "Djangostation"-site. I am gonna check this. ( I ´ll pm you soon, Patrus)

Hope this helps a little bit.

    Best,
    Barengero

Hey great to see something on Mike Reinhardt here. I just got the Mike Reinhardt Sextett album Swing Thirty Nine off itunes much to my delight!

On another note I was just at Djangos Erben Festival in Koblenz, Germany and I saw many Reinhardts including Mike, Moro, Lulo, Sascha and others. Mike's dad, Daweli Reinhardt, was there too though not playing. If you've listened to Schnuckenack Reinhardt's albums, you've heard Daweli.

It seems Mike is playing more often on nylon string guitars these days but whether he's playing a flamenco guitar or a Selmer style axe, man oh f%^&ing man is he fun to watch! His right hand is simply unbelievable. Most insane picking I've ever seen. If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend seeing him. He's a friendly guy too.

Why did I think that the album with the puppet was called "Happy Bird"?
Am I thinking of something else?

    Hi Caleb,

"Happy Bird" is the name of the record label. This name of the label is printed on the back of the Record cover, so there you can read:
"Mike Reinhardt Sextett … Happy Bird 9004".

    Best,
    Barengero

P.S.: I saw Mike Reinhardt last weekend at the Hildesheim Gipsy Jazz Festival - his style is unique.

Ditto, I just saw him in Koblenz, Germany at Django's Erben. What a powerful right hand! I wish he'd play less nylon string these days and more Selmac.
