Josh, how much do your bridges weigh? I've been thinking more about bridges and so weighed mine:
My Dell Arte bridge (ebony) weighs 15 grams
My HGC (Holo Guitar Co.) bridge (ebony) weighs 11 grams
My Shelley Park bridge (Rosewood) weighs 9 grams
My Busato bridge (Rosewood) weighs 8 grams
I'm definitely going to start experimenting with Rosewood with various inserts to get down under 10g. I particularly like some African Blackwood I recently came across - It's denser than ebony and rings clearly. I've done some bone & micarta inserts and liked the punch and clarity but prefer the sound of wood. I'm hoping the Blackwood inserts in Rosewood will give me the best of all worlds.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.
It depends on the guitar. Some guitars respond better with a very light bridge while others benefit form a heavier one. It just depends on the guitar and the desire of the player.
