I heard that Bireli's Iridium NYC gig was canceled.
It seems he didn't show up and as of now is MIA.
The club has no idea where he is, but he is not in the country.
They aren't saying he won't show up, but they can't say he will.
I'm glad I had already withdrawn from seeing him last night.
I was going to go Saturday, but the guy at the club advised me to cancel the reservation, which I did.
I really like this cd of Bireli and Miss Lazarus. Bireli is just full of energy and musicality, and I almost prefer his relatively small and sweet tone to those of some hard-driving gypsy players. Even though maybe Sara's voice is not as sensual as I would have it, I think "she's all right with me." I find she sings better in French, but that could be just the language itself!
Anyway, my question is... Can everyone recommend their favourite vocal jazz/swing cd's that have accompaniment in this gypsy vein? ...Or even just name their favourite French or American jazz, small ensemble music. I don't know much about singers, but I whole-heartedly welcome singing to the style we love and I want to learn more about classic jazz small ensemble singing. Please, I hope you can help me. Thanks
Connie Evingson & The Hot Club of Sweden "Stockholm Sweetnin" with Andreas Oberg and Gustav Lundgren.
Sweet vocals, arrangements and play list. I am sure you will enjoy it...
Well produced and some fine guitar playing by Andreas and Gustav.
Gustav is one tasty player! I should get some of his recordings...
We all know Andreas, of course!
Connie also did a CD with Pearl Django, Sammo Militch and Parisota HC "Gypsy in My Soul"...
