Hi Folks:
Time is winging along like Django's fingers on the fretboard, so here’s a quick update on this year’s upcoming Django in June.
Django Camp
We now have almost 40 people registered for Django Camp (the "music camp" portion of our event, running Tuesday-Sunday) including participants from CA, TX, WA, CO, AZ, OH, MD, VA, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Holland and Israel, not to mention nearby states and locals. A nice mix of folks and a good mix of guitar, violin, mandolin, accordion and bass players. We have a couple staff members currently slated for only the weekend, but who are willing to come for the whole Camp (Tuesday through Sunday), so if you’ve been waiting to register, it would help us prepare if you were to sign on soon. It’s going to be a great week.
New Staff: Matt Glaser (violin) and Dennis Chang (guitar)
Speaking of staff, I’m pleased to announce two recent additions: Matt Glaser and Dennis Chang. Matt is head of the String Department at the Berklee College of Music and (among his many, many credits) co-authored a book on Swing Violin with none other than Stephane Grappelli. Dennis Chang has been of service to students of this style in many ways, his most recent contribution being the instructional DVD just released by HyperHip Media,
Jazz Manouche: The Art of Accompaniment. There’s more about them and the rest of our staff on the website. Quite a crew.
Weekend Clinics, Housing & Food
We are now accepting reservations from folks who would like to drop in for the weekend (or any part of it). A full roster of weekend clinics is now up on the website for your perusal, so please peruse away. We’ve been assigned to a beautiful dorm with private rooms and we’re offering an on-campus meal plan this year as well. So park your car and forget about it for the weekend. Come to learn, to jam and to listen to world-class Gypsy jazz on Friday and Saturday nights.
Vendors and Merchandise
There’s going to be all manner of merchadise to check out at our weekend Guitar Bazaar, from hand-built instruments to picks and strings. Vendors currently slated to be with us include: Djangobooks, AcousticMusic.org (with Park and Dupont guitars in tow), Paris Swing, Draleon, Ithaca Stringed Instruments, Rodrigo Shopis, Bernie Lehmann, Hyperhip Media and Manouche Guitars. Both Schatten Design and AER have generously donated pickups for us to demo and give away, and so we shall.
And that's it! I'm really looking forward to an incredible week of music. Hope you can join us.
Andrew
