Upstroke

Hi I just got my Gypsy Rythm book, and I'm looking foreward to learn to play good rythm. I have tried to play the la pompe rythm before i got this book and I have always hit all the strings during the upstroke. In the Gypsy Rythm book it says that only the bass strings should be hit during the upstroke, a motion that I find more difficult to do. Hoping for good advice!

Yes, it really helps to keep the upstroke small. Keep at it and you'll get a great rhythm sound!

so hitting all strings on the upstroke is not a good idea?

No...don't do that. Some times you can use that as a special effect in certain styles. But in general. Doing the upstroke on all six strings is too slow and will make your rhythm sound really hokey. The dreaded galloping horse sound...
