So here is the mp3, I have slowed it down and tried to amplify the spot where Django starts his scale.

Sounds like a mule in heat.....I think the trick to doing chromatic runs is to keep in mind how many beats the entire run is going to be, and then practice it until it fits (no big revelation I'll admit). When I started doing that it became easier for me. Also the bit about using the index finger at the first fret and then the middle for the rest like Django does seems to work better also.

Actually Elliot, that IS a mule in heat...he was close to the microphone when I slowed the solo down!!

Hey, check out some software like "Transcribe!" (that explanation mark is part of the name; not me shouting at you). You can find it here.. http://www.seventhstring.demon.co.uk. It allows you to slow down music without losing the pitch.. Whenever asking about specific bits of a song I find its easiest to just name where it is on the track time wise and then usually some kind person here will go take a quick look and give their angle on it. I remember trying to learn this solo once but realised it was beyond my current abilities.. probably because of the bit that your talking about. Good luck!

hi chip you should know that whenever django did those chromatic runs they were never (or rarely) 100% perfect.. that is the case for almost anyone who does these.... so in other words, don't bother trying to get everything perfect... the important thing is to know on what beat it starts and on what beat it ends...
