Hey fellow Djangologist,
I'm passing along this email from someone that I played with last year
in Philly, Solomon Douglas. He has a terrific book of big band arrangements from the 30-s & 40's, and is a mean piano player hisself.
[I believe Ted G. and Paul mehling and Jessie Barksdale have done some gigs with him]. Anyhow, check out his email below.
" I have a gig coming up in Ottawa, Canada. (For those of you who don't
know where that is, Ottawa is about 2h from Montreal or Kingston, 3h
from Syracuse, 4.5h from Toronto or Rochester, and 7h from Boston or
NYC.) It's my ten-piece big band, and we're doing an entire night of
music from the late 1920s and early 1930s.
I'm looking for someone to play guitar and some banjo on the gig. The
reason I'm e-mailing all of you is because obviously it wouldn't do
for me to hire a modern jazz guitarist for this job. All of you are
people I trust to play Freddie Greene or Django Reinhardt styles, and
although this gig doesn't call for precisely that, it's in the right
ballpark! So, if you can recommend anyone who lives in Ottawa, or
even anyone else who might be able to make such a recommendation, I'd
be much obliged!
Thanks in advance,
Solomon
P.S. the gig is on June 30th. If any of you would like to be in
Canada's capital city on Canada Day weekend, I'll offer you the gig in
an instant.

I wasn't sure where to post this. Anyhow, his email is SRCD@alum.mit.edu
