i personally am a big fan of using the pinky... but on occasion i might use the ring finger...

it's a personal choice... but i find using the pinky gives me more control over the neck of the guitar.... furthermore, it allows me to do benson octaves (octaves filled with a note in between , usually the 5th)

    Many thanks Dennis

Sorry to obsess over this issue, but I'm really keen to do this the way that you do, as it seems to give best economy of movement.

If I understand your postings correctly:
    Root notes on E & A strings:Index and pinky (2 fret stretch)
Root notes on D & G strings: Middle and pinky (3 fret stretch)

    - this seems to be the opposite of how I first learned learned to play octaves.

    Please confirm!

    Thanks & Best wishes
