At the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival

The Django Reinhardt Festival was launched in 2000 as the first ever festival of its kind in America. They established a home at the legendary club, Birdland, in New York City. The Festival celebrates the music of legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt who teamed with famed jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli in the 30's and 40's to create the Quintet of the Hot club de France, which went on to become one of the most important jazz partnerships in history. Django played with a virtuosity unmatched to this day and an originality that inspires young guitarists all over the world to continue perpetuating his legacy. 50 years after its creation, the music is still 'cutting edge' and is resurging all over the world.
The Django Reinhardt Festival Band serves to carry on this legacy with the top players from Europe combined with America's great jazz stars to bring virtuosity, romantic melodies, and camaraderie that Reinhardt’s legacy demands. The group includes famed French guitar extraordinaire, Dorado Schmitt on lead guitar, his son Samson Schmitt, lead and rhythm guitar, Ludovic Beier, accordion and accordina, Pierre Blanchard, violin and Brian Torff on bass.
