Hey guys I know this isn't Gypsy jazz related, but I have a feeling some of you guys on here are familiar with Brazilian guitar styles and was wondering if any of you guys could help. Here is the story I pottentially have some fairly lucretive gigs coming up in about 2 months for playing Nylon string back up rhythm for this singer here in town at a brazilian resturaunt. I really love Bossa Nova and Samba and i feel I can do a passable rhythm job but was looking for something a bit more authentic and standardized. Do any of you guys know where I can find good information for beginers to these styles on line or any books you would recomend. I am not really looking ot emmerse myself compleatley in the style but I want to get hired for this job. I have a little while to prepare so hopefully it will work out. btw I have done the typical google searches and youtubes searches as well as looked at some sheet music sites. Are there any forums similair to this one for those types of styles?
thanks in advance guys.

Try writing Stu about this (stublag on the UK forum)-he plays a lot of choro stuff, I think.
In the meantime, this page seems good for some tunes:

Someone posted this on another jazz board, but I haven't looked at it yet:

It is kind of sparse but has a ton of tunes. I think it is run by one of his sons. No problem on the coattails it will be symbiotic. If I find some thing I will let you know. Now I just have have to get a nylon string guitar. I have an archtop I might be looking to trade for a mid-level - cheap good one.
I highly recommend 'Brazilian Rhythms for Guitar' by Carlos Arana and 'Brazilian Gutar' by Nelson Faria, two of the best books that really go through styles (including the less well known Northern Brazilian styles like Baiao, Frevo etc) origins, rhythms, textures, application, harmonic cliches, and in the case of the Faria book, charts realized into full arrangments. They are both great resources for giving yourself an overhaul or just up'n your game, with the Faria book being the more complex of the two.
