Tears, when played on the classical guitar is a beautiful choice. Learning Tears was made easy using Michael's wonderful book, I highly recommend it.
While I prefer using my fingers when performing Tears, I have performed it with a pick in a jam band setting. Also, I noticed how similar it is in basic theme and modality to Capricho Arabe by Francisco Terrega, a wonderful composition. Click below if you like and listen to Tears for a different approach.

Certainly a bit more complicated than Tears, but there is a great deal of cross application if learning one and then the other.
