If you're anywhere near, don't miss out on this rare event to hear Bireli and the rest of us play live with a symphony orchestra. It's taking place at Theatre Champs Elysses in Paris, 8pm on September 14th!
Wow, it sounds like an amazing show. It would be great to see Bireli and Florin on stage -- I am glad they are playing together again. Too bad the show is on the other side of the world. Is there any chance the event will be taped or go on a tour?
Hope you have a wonderful time with the show!
Off the topic, is any chance there is a Gypsy Fire 2 book coming soon?
Wow, this will surely be a grandiose concert. I'd really wish this gets recorded one way or the other (audio/video). They should stream it on the web so all of us could listen to it live!
Wish you the best with the show,
Thanks for keeping up the updates here,
Eric
1. I don't think this will be recorded. They recorded the premiere show in 2005 with Stochelo (both audio and video) but that one hasn,'t been released for various reasons..
2. Michael and I are working on Gypsy Fire 2 aka Gypsy Bop. It will hopefully be out in half a year or so.
Regards Andreas
Here comes some additional info:
"After an idea by Jon Larsen, orchestrated by Per Ekdahl, a Vogna Production.
This incredible one-of-a-kind concert is the fulfilment of Django's dream: to hear his music in full symphonic widescreen. Ten carefully chosen compositions by the Manouche genius, for the first time in full orchestration - you have not heard Django's music before you have heard this... don't miss it!
I wish i could see the symphonic show but I guess I'll just have to be there in spirit. I hope someone records the event as it sounds like an incredible concert!
I think Django would have cried if he saw his compositions played with a symphony. Amazing stuff really. I really liked Nuages and Nuits De Saint-Germain-Des-Pres. And Coquette was really great Andreas, you sounded fantastic.
I took some bad pictures and took a video of two songs, but they are pretty bad quality. I was in the "nose bleed" section of the theatre with a pretty limited view.
I don't know if there was a jam session, as I am not a "big player" unless my beer belly is a factor. I did see some guitar cases in the audience but everyone seemed to go in different directions when the show was over.
I read some reviews on the manoucheries and they seemed pretty harsh, even considering my limited French. I thought your intro and solos were great during Coquette and the audience seemed to love it, as well as the players on stage( granted, I'm gong on body language, it was hard to see from where I was seated). But there sure was a lot of applause.
I'll try to send you the pics and vids if I can figure out how to do so and if it doesn't violate anything by posting them. the vids suck, but they have decent sound.
