I just got the advanced copy in a few days ago....great read!
We should have Michael on the forum in the near future to answer questions about the new book. We'll should also have some signed copies once they're available.
I read the Django bio. he wrote, and I'm just finishing up this new book. I'm really impressed. It's part ethnomusicology travelogue and part gypsy jazz history. Michael really got "in" with the musicians and traced the genre of gypsy jazz from Django's day to the present.
I didn't know much about gypsy jazz before reading these books, but became intrigued by John Jorgenson's modern interpretation. Michael's book have been a great introduction to the music and culture that produced it. I especially like how he appreciates Django's later electric guitar recordings. Now I will have to listen to Matelo and Baro Ferret.
