Super Remedial Rest Stroke Question

Hi All,

I'm not new to guitar, but I am very new to GJ. I just got my copy of Gypsy Picking today and I am starting the long journey down the GJ road. I want to make sure I'm doing this right. When I do exercise #2 (down and upstrokes on open strings), I find that as I move from the low E to the high E, the position of the pick along the string moves towards the bridge. That is: I pick the high E closer to the bridge, and the low E closer to the soundhole. Is this correct? When I read the rest stroke stuff, it makes so much sense, yet it's totally different from what I have been doing for the last 15 years (I'm one of those guys who always rested my hand on the bridge).

Thanks,

peri

    Hi Peri,

You should be able to pick the string anywhere you want....closer to the bridge for a sharper sound, closer to the soundhole for a mellower sound.

    Good luck!
