if i haven't been playing for a while it can take a couple of days to warm at all. the best thing is to play a lot everyday.

I just play some of the Unaccompanied Django pieces to warm up...a few of those and I'm ready to go!

I am older than most of the players here so I have a little routine I do in the morning. I run through a bunch of arpeggios, maj7, min.7, dom,7, dim. etc and then play through a few musette watzes.
I also have been doing some of the George Van Epps triad exercises for years and find theat they greatly enhance my ability to play cleanly and quietly. I don't want to overtax old muscles so I'm careful to get them stretched out before I do anything demanding.
