right-hand fingers

searched the forum, but wanted to get some direct opinions:

right hand pinky lightly touching top or just pick and strings?

which do you use and why? any trouble with either?

i do both. I find those repetitive sweep picking patterns, like that common one on the three high strings easier with the pinky lightly touching the top so i uncurl my fingers for them and some other things. but not for most things.
