Not shunning the Selmer607 spin (they sound great!), I wanted to share my favorite coltrane stuff from the web.
Coltrane is the reason why I got into jazz and took up the sax in high school. Any of his ballad recordings are just classic. If you are a big fan, I recommend watching the "Jazz Casual" episode of him & the quartet on Youtube or from Netlix.
We do "Footprints" straight into Coltrane's "Mr. PC". It works great as a gypsy tune as a quote or by itself.
We also do Mongo Santamaria's "Afro Blue" which Coltrane covered a lot. We do it very slow as almost a classical/folky tune. Works great, but not really GJ.
If anyone knows of any transcriptions of "Charlie Parker with Strings" please let me know, I wish someone would make a book of it / publish the big band scores. Thanks ,
Gorgeous, tasty biting Selmer- this could be the quintessential petite bouche sound.
Adrien is absolutely smoking it on this clip! What a player- I really hope to make this year's camp.
