i met a guitarist who played with the guy who hosted django during django's trip to the US. Django's host, who was a musician as well (I don't recall his name), and was doing pretty well with gigs on radio or TV and didn't have to play nightly gigs.

At the end of his stay in the US, Django offered the host some money, because he thought the host was having trouble getting work- not playing every night.

The guitarist was Remo Palmier who claimed Django stayed with him for 2 weeks during his US visit. Django offered him money to pay for the birth of his twins because he (Palmier) never seemed to work at night and consequently Django thought he was out-of-work and financially strapped.

When Palmier told Django he actually worked early in the morning on a radio show, Django was horrified. He said he would need a million dollars to play music before lunchtime.
