You should use a "swept-stroke": starting from the resting position and pushing through the string, rather than raising the hand up and letting it fall. A swept-stroke is usually preceeded by a rest-stroke.The above suggestions come directly from the immensely useful book "Gypsy picking" by Michael Horowitz, that I strongly recommend to everyone want to study the GJ guitar.
