To my knowledge Raphael Fays (in the Vids above) is the only Gypsy jazzer to really take flamenco seriously (he also plays great classical guitar!). Most of the other just fake it sometimes....
Lulo Reinhardt also plays a lot of Flamenco. These days he plays nylon string guitars as much or more than his selmac. Same with his cousin Mike Reinhardt who is also way into Flamenco these days. It's very cool to watch guys like these blend the styles.

After checking out this thread, I pulled out my Juan Martin Flamenco book and tried some basic tunes! It was a blast. Some sound really cool just as they are, but a few would need some reworking.
btw, I'm not a flamenco player. Bought the book a while ago when I thought that it might be a style I wanted to delve in.
This has got me wondering about flamenco and steel-string guitars (preferably SelMacs). I wonder if I posted a query at one of the flamenco forums .... well, I'd prolly be labeled a troll and banned.

It's my understanding that FLamenco is all Lulo really plays. The few examples I've heard of him playing Gypsy jazz seemed like he was a fish out of water.

Yes I believe for the last ten years or so he's been mostlt playing flamenco. He's spent a lot of time in Spain and has also done some interesting things way back with Brazilian guitarist Zezo Ribiero for example. He's doing some gypsy swing too but not as much as when he was younger and much of it is a bit different than what we're used to hearing.
