Greetings & Aloha ~
I'm traveling to Oahu (staying in & around Honolulu) between March 5th til the 10th and was wondering if anyone had any tips on Gypsy jazz on the island during that time frame. My wife & I are planning to see if it's a good idea for us to move & study in Oahu so hence my trip. My mission is to drive around the island while listening to the Fletch soundtrack and randomly inspect local places and see if I can report to her what the heart of Oahu is.
Any good venues for local music--be it live jazz, hawaiian music, or blues--are greatly welcome, too.
As I am going by a Lonely Planet tourbook and pretty much wandering about the island for a few days channeling Anthony Bourdain, any other Oahu "must sees" or isle secrets (best eateries, beaches, ramen, kava bars, music shops, markets, yada yada) would be whole-heartedly appreciated.
I unfortunately won't have a guitar but it'd still be great to listen to the local Oahu music. I shall keep my trusty wegen in my pocket in case of meeting a fellow g-jazzer.
Thanks in advance for your help & Warm Regards ~
Alex

Also, the person that posts here as badjazz is in Honolulu. Have a good trip!
best,
Jack.
If my wife & I do move to Oahu I hear there is a short ferry ride to Maui so perhaps I'd be lucky to catch them.
I'll send an email to badjazz and see if I can ask him or her for Oahu tips, too. From my books and tour guides it looks like everything will be pretty amazing to check out, and though I'll be snorkeling a good amount of time, I'm going to do my best to enjoy and see as much as I can onland within those few days.
