I recently moved to Vancouver to study music and I was wondering if anyone knew of a Gypsy Jazz in Vancouver. You know, weekly jams, clubs or anything really. I'm really looking to play with some like minded Gypsy Jazzers.....

Cheers,

Suds

    YEAH ! THE BEST ONE ! 8)

Haha, I lived for a year in Vancouver !
There's not many people to play with, although there's a famous woman who makes great gypsy guitars, at least I was told so...
If you contact that woman ( here: http://www.parkguitars.com/ ), she might be able to inform you about gypsy jazz in that region...

    Good luck !

Welcome to the NW. Oops Sorry "the Southwest" for Canadians. Vancouver is a great city. Not real familiar with the Vancouver GJ scene. But here's my take on Seattle 3 hrs away.

It's nice here, If you can get to love the climate you will be very happy. This weekend Apr 11-13, 2008 in Vancouver, BC is a Djangofest. Good place to start. Pearl Django, a great band from Seattle will be there. (I'll be there)

I've become infatuated with GJ over the last year. Seattle is a good place to be for that. I bought a GJ Guitar from Michael H last month. Doing my best to learn the style @ 52yo.

Check out these Seattle Bands for their gigs.

I think there is Jam Session at Latona Pub in Seattle 2x a month

Seattle's NW Folklife Festival is Great! It's over Memorial Day weekend. Lots of folk and Bluegrass and all other styles. It's all good and user friendly, I'm sure there will be some GJ there, it's 4 days long. I hope hope it's warm and sunny.
