I'm a new member ( joined today) and I'm having trouble opening a particular file posted by a member. It was posted on March 4th 08 by Zubi and is a transcription of Tchan Tchou's version of Dark Eyes( Les Yeux Noirs). How do I open that file? Please help!

I think it was a guitar pro file...you'll need the software to open it:

I think they offer a free demo you can use; I've never tried it...

    best,
    Jack.

Tuxguitar is a free software. It is quite flexible and nice enough to read gp files if you don't want to pay for guitar pro :

Thanks for those replies. I downloaded Tuxguitar, and I got the music for Les Yeux Noirs up on the screen, but, when I tried to print it out, my computer froze. I tried it again and the same thing happened. Any idea what's going wrong?

Wow, TuxGuitar is totally sweet! It's free, flexible... it imports GP files... it imports PowerTab files... exports as ASCII files (if you want that old OLGA tab look)... exports as PDF files (nice!)... it... it...

... It froze my computer when I tried to print.

That was on my crusty old Win98 PC at the office. I'll see if TuxGuitar has this same "undocumented feature" on my XP machine at home.

For now, here's a work-around: Export the file as a PDF and print the PDF.

(So the program is little cranky, but the price is right!)

    UPDATE:
I tried TuxGuitar on my XP PC. Invoking the "Print" command slowed my system down almost to the point of being unusable. After about 10 minutes, the print-job finally started, but the results were unsatisfactory. The program only printed the notes and tab positions, no staff lines or measure bars. So, I'm still saving as PDF and printing them from Adobe.
