I want to see the back side of the Stimer S48, to know whether it can clip onto either side of the sound hole, not just one (or upside down on opposite side, gypsy style). Anybody know where I could see a pic?
I'm pleased you brought this up as I've been thinking of getting an Stimer 48 recently. This is the only picture I know of that shows the backside, and it appears as if the clip is only on one side, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for the pic. Drat, I was hoping I could attach the ST48 upside-down next to the fretboard. Looks that that won't be possible. Some say you can stick the pickup on adequately with goop.
The other issue with the ST48 is whether I'm going to be annoyed by the louder B string under it—I like Argentine 11's which are said to sound uneven with the ST48 and don't want to have to change strings for a whole separate electric sound. I read, though, that John Jorgensen uses a Stimer with his Argentines. Anyone know if he still does that? Schertler online says he uses a Schertler.
I know that the D-Hole Stimer 48 does have two clips on the back, although I'm not sure if it will fit an Oval Hole guitar or not. I've been thinking of getting one for my Oval Hole Selmers, as I prefer their tone over the acoustic pickups (that and the fact that I don't want to buy an acoustic amp). From what I have heard on this site the B string problem does not seem to be anything to lose sleep over, and it seems that many people using Stimers just use Argentine strings regardless.
I'm kind of in the same boat as you are, as I prefer the .11 Argentines on my Selmers. I figure if it's good enough for Django, then I surely can't complain. Does anyone know if Django changed strings on his Selmer when using the Stimer?
One thing I can tell you with certainty is that the ST48 reissue does fit the oval hole Selmer both right and left hand, and there's even one for the D-hole.

I answered my own question: If there are right- and left-hand ST48's then the clip on the back only goes one way.
