    Hi Michael

It is actually Lenzner. Sort of an awkward spelling.

Have you tried them yet? My only experience with Lenzner was with 10's a long time ago - and they were too silky for my taste - but my tastes have evolved a lot since then so they probably merit another try. If I remember correctly from the "great string challenge of '03" (when I dropped about $100 on different brands/gauges of strings and tried them all within the period of about a week... ugh.. an expensive week...) Galli and Pearse were on the stiff side, Savarez and Dell Arte seemed very similar, Guadalupe and Lenzner were on the silky side and I couldn't really get my head around GHS as they just seemed to have a different feel - as though some strings were stiffer and some were silkier. There were a couple other brands that don' t come to mind. I'm sure it's all relative to what a person gets used to, but I would find it very interesting if there was an 11 that was somewhat silkier and that held up well. If that's something they offer - I think there's likely a pretty decent number of folks out there who'd be interested. The price is certainly interesting - and I like the fact that they carry silk & steel - I've never experiemented with silk & steel but have wanted to for a while now.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.

Still have the same set on from the thread below! They are a little past prime now

Previously, I had tried a set of the Lenzner Fisoma string in the 0.10 gauge.
They were well made but lacked a certain oomph that I missed, and felt a little too soft on my petite bouche. Considering that Argentines are the de facto benchmark for most of us, I found them a little too low in tension and snap on my guitar. They might be great for someone just learning this style, who is is having trouble with the gypsy chords, or if you really like very light strings.

Michael Horowitz had suggested that perhaps they might be under gauged. I still don't know if that's true, but they feel like they might be.
So, I followed it up with a set of the Lenzner Fisoma ) 0.11 gauge, and I must say they are much more to my liking - very similar to Argentine 0.10's at a more competitive price. They are not as stiff as The D'Addario 0.10's and nowhere as stiff as John Pearse 0.10's.

If you're thinking about trying this make of strings, you might want to buy a gauge 1 step up from what you're used to in Argentines.
    Just my opinion.

Just tried a set on Michael's recommendation and was excited to learn about the feature I've never seen on any strings I've tried, wrapped strings ends at the winding post.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned it yet, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Seems like it really works to help a help set of strings stay in tune.
German engineering, nobody like them to reinvent the wheel.

I got a silk and steel in med and light gauge and same thing with silver plated.
I tried silk and steel medium first and I like what I hear initially.
This is on short scale D hole guitar.
The only thing is they feel fairly stiff, high tensioned but still playable. So I'm afraid silver plated set in medium may be too stiff.
These that I have on are very punchy but we'll see how are they in a jam or with a band.
Seems like they're brighter than other silk and steel I've tried. Although they've been on the guitar for about an hour only so we'll see after a few more hours of play time how they settle in.

  • @buco. I will be interested in your thoughts on the .11 silk and steel after a bit currently using Galli SS .11's on my DuPont but not quite what I want

    @Jazzaferri will do.
Used the guitar with these strings in a gig and band practice.
With these silk and steel 12s the guitar indeed projects like crazy, very loud without brashness.
The downside, for me personally is if I'm pumping rhythm for a soloist on a fast and long form song, by the time my turn to solo comes my left hand can feel pretty fatigued. I'll see what stepping down in gauge will do with the next set.

Which set to make a Martin 0000 (M) body sound and play a bit more "Gypsy" ?
