Having only tried a couple of real ones myself, I don't know how close Maurice really came to nailing the sound of a great one. But I really liked the tone the new replicas produce and would probably prefer it over the regular Dupont models (which we all know are great), particularly for jamming situations, also as you said earlier, considering what a vintage Busato goes for (sighs...) these look like an amazing deal.
Just got the first Dupont Busato in a few minuets ago!
Wow, he really nailed it. Everything is there...it has the crazy Busato bombe (top arch), arched back, neck angle, ultra long scale. The hardware was copied so well I can't tell the difference between the original and the Dupont.
Sound wise it's everything Busatos were designed for....pure ass kicking volume, bright, dry, and some nice tight low end. Attitude, attitude, attitude...there's nothing polite about these guitars whatsoever.
The only thing I can find different then the originals is the neck....he decided to go forgo the baseball bat like neck of the originals in favor of a slimmer, modern neck, like the MD 50.
How does it compare to your own Busato?
I've been dreaming about the one I played at Dupont's stand in Samois two months ago... Lucky fellows at Djangofest...
Yes....it's the standard. Will be $3,500. Great guitar...everyone has been loving it at Djangofest.
It sounds very, very close to the two vintage Busatos I have here right now. Ultra bright, dry, crunchy, with a fast, aggressive attack. You can here the age in the older ones, but other then that, they're very similar. And the good thing is that the Dupont Busato is a lot easier to play.

BBH:
I believe the proper term is "Dusatos".
