What were strings like back in Django's day?

Just curious as to what strings were made of back in the Hot Clubs heyday?

These days you go to the store and it can be overwhelming trying to figure out which ones to try, Ph. Bronze, 80/20's, SilkSteel, coated, not coated etc... a bazillion guages to choose from too.

I have trouble imaganing Django standing at a counter picking strings out... seems like i read in a book he made his brother carry his guitar, probably made him get strings too!

Anyway, anyone know? What it just "guitar strings" with no choices or was there varying guages and types too?

He supposedly used Savarez Argentines 10's and is said to have been especially fond of them.
