no....that's not how it's done. The Gypsy Rhythm book explains it in detail on p.32-34

    OK thanks
  • Michael,

    Please clarify:

on p33 - Left Hand "3) Press the chord down so that the chord sounds when you play the large downstroke on beat two"

Do you press immediately after muting on beat one, or press just before sounding beat two?

    Thanks....

    Michael,

Do you press immediately after muting on beat one, or press just before sounding beat two?

That's sort of the same thing....there just needs to be a short mute in-between the beats.

  • Ok...let's say at a very slow tempo...pressure on...small upstoke beat 1...mute...then

    now is left hand

    1) relaxed and not pressing down until just before beat 2, or

    2) is it already in place (for a lot longer) waiting for right hand to come down for beat 2

if 2) then left hand is pressing down a lot more than in 1)

I wouldn't say it's the same unless at much higher tempos when I suppose it must be.

Sorry it's a bit of a pedantic question, and for most people wouldn't cross their minds...

    Thanks...

I think #1 is probably the most accurate. Generally there just needs to be some sort of muting between beats. It's really impossible to explain the millisecond differences you're asking about. The best test is how it sounds...just experiment till it sounds right.
